Amazon to Launch Satellite Internet Service in India

Amazon is reportedly preparing to launch its satellite internet service, Project Kuiper, in India . The company is seeking approvals from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre and plans to apply for the global mobile personal communication by satellite services license at the Department of Telecommunications . Project Kuiper aims to provide affordable and faster broadband services globally, specifically for people and areas that still lack proper internet services . The service will use 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) for reliable broadband coverage . Amazon aims to provide internet speeds of up to 1Gbps, which will primarily be meant for enterprise and government use. There will be up to 400Mbps speeds for commercial use .

Jio has already announced its plans to bring satellite internet services to India in collaboration with Luxembourg-based telecom company SES . However, there’s no word on when this will start taking shape. Even Elon Musk’s Starlink attempted to bring its satellite internet service to India but withdrew due to several factors .
